I think UCF is a highly regarded school for academics...right?
Maybe? I do know that it's massive in terms of enrollment.
I was always under the strong impression that UF was the overall flagship of the state when you take academics, athletics, etc. into account.

most desirable college in each state based on the number of applications they received this year.
Oh...well no shite then. Most applications doesn't necessarily equate with "most desirable."
I'm sure for a lot of people in Massachusetts, Harvard or MIT is "more desirable." They just get less applications because lots of people don't bother applying.
Dumb methodology.

Okie state over Oklahoma is another head scratcher

The map is based off of the number of people applying in the states, not the best schools. That being said, I am still surprised by Florida and Louisiana

your perception is based off of your SEC bias. UCF is by far the most popular school in Florida.

Tulane had the most applications of any private school in the country a couple years ago. They had 44,000 applicants or something crazy like that. Er'body wants to live in New Orleans.

Same thing that happened to Tennessee
Let's not put Tulane and Vandy on the same level. Vandy is actually a good school.

This is based purely on # of applications received

Damn that's a lot of potential hipsters

Makes sense given the criteria.

Duke is bullshite most its students are from NJ anyway, probably the same with Tulane over LSU.

Vanderbilt should be on top of Tennessee in this... I graduated from UT and gladly would have rather gone to Vandy.
That Sunsphere. Without it, I wouldn't be the man I am today.

Living in NOLA for 4 years >>>>>>>> Living in BR for 4 years

I'd rather be living/working in NOLA and student loan free for the next 10-30 years than live in NOLA for the extra 4 years and be straddled with debt.
At this point in our society, with many people getting advanced degrees, your undergrad school matters very little (especially in the Tulane v. LSU undergrad argument).

Exactly. Which is why I got my undergrad from LSU and Master's from Tulane
