El Paso, Tx. I was there about a decade ago...that was the first place I noticed shops that rented tires and wheels.

I'm glad you feel that way. Keep your arse away.

Also:

If you've driven through Uniontown and haven't gotten a speeding ticket on HWY 80, count yourself in the minority. I missed the speed limit sign going from 65 to 55. That cop absolutely loved writing an out-of-towner a ticket for 66 in the 55.

That pic isn't Tuscaloosa, that's Northport. Stay out of my town. Turn right at the light and Sonic is on your right FYI.

Albany and Dublin Georgia are both depressing as hell.

Also not in an SEC state, but Cairo, IL (old river town) is the most depressing town I've ever seen in person

It has to be somewhere in the delta; the transition is pretty stark, when you go south and east of Little Rock, and South of Memphis, and east of Shreveport, and north of Baton Rouge-- I'm not sure of the easternmost extent, but it seems slightly better by the time you get to Mobile or Tuscaloosa-- but the area is a giant morass of poverty, desperation, and sadness.

Its not like those 'anchor points' are exactly fantastic places themselves, but they're better than that great swath of human misery in between them.

I had the misfortune of spending two years there. ULM paid my tuition in full and a stipend on top of that to get my masters there.... I still don't think it was worth to have to live in that hell hole.
