There are lots of stereotypes floating around about US millennials, not the least of which is that they all live in Brooklyn and San Francisco.

Turns out, that’s not quite true. A new analysis from the Brookings Institution breaks down the generational makeup of the 100 largest US metropolitan areas. At 75 million strong, millennials, now ages 21 to 37, are the largest working generation. Where they live and which places attract them don’t just reflect a generation’s desires. They also signal where the economy will grow. Young adults—and young workers—are critically important for local growth.

Scranton has always just sounded like a shitty place to me. Sounds like some rash you could get on your scrotum .

It is pretty wild that nearly every other block is another large development under construction. Gets annoying since it usually affects the traffic on the nearby roads.

I think it’s a decent place to grow up, go to college, raise a family, or even possibly retire.

The absolute worst group to be a part of in Baton Rouge is a young professional who does not have kids.

All in all, it is a pretty good place for the vast majority of people. Not amazing. But you could do worse.

You do realize that being white hipster isn’t a prerequisite for being a millennial, right? A lot of young blacks in Baton Rouge.

Did this generation just get expanded? Did I just get reassigned? I was born in 1980 and always thought I was Gen X.

I identify as a Gen X therefore I am Gen X.

You are right on the border. Most having the millennial generation starting in 1980 although I watched a documentary on Nat Geo about GenX the other day and they had it as 1961-1981
