Maybe they deviate since it won't be much above 60'.

Except that NOAA was saying the crest would be 62', with Morganza opening. Not to say USACE doesnt have better/updated numbers, but thats a significant drop from what was predicted last week on top of them leaving Morganza closed, assuming they think it stays below 60'.

Do those forecast take into consideration of opening spillways before they are open?

I know New Orleans does because of Bonnet Carre. For Morganza I have no idea, but I would guess so.

I’m sitting in my neighbors boat waiting for the impending failure of the Morganza. Lemme know when it’s time to fire this sumbitch up

You might be waiting there awhile...

I doubt Morganza fails if it doesnt open. What will be more interesting is how high the river gets in BR b/c of Morganza staying closed.

According to NOAA they are projecting barely above the March crest this year. Half a foot below 2011.

I don't get it. Where is all this irrational fear for BR and NewO flooding. With the exception of a runaway barge those two areas and ORCS are the least likely places to have a failure.

I went ahead and got on FB and let all my friends and family know that the Morganza's compromised and will fail soon and told them to tell all their friends and family. Need to let everyone know so we can all be prepared when it fails!

I’m making fun of the person who had inside info that the Morganza was going to fail, literally changing the face of the earth, and that the federal government has known about it for 8 years and did nothing

The fricking low sill structure was starting to get undermined and fricking moved in 2011.

I love how nobody wants to talk about that.

This is asinine considering the ORCS was getting undermined during the 2011 flood event and the whole structure moved.

Is there a significant difference between the height at red river landing and the height at morganza?

If RR landing already at 61, so we think morganza is still below 60?

Didn't they say they would open at 60?

And yet, you missed the part where I clearly said Morganza

This is not simple. This requires extensive modeling research.

Simple physics would be non calculus stuff like average velocity.

Not really. Flow is flow.

Yes there are thousands of variables affecting it, but less than five matter.

Increasing Flow down stream will decrease pressure upstream.

That part IS simple physics.

I don't think morganza will fail. But it needs to be operated more.

The low sill structure is constantly under stress, its the one that everyone should watch.

Nobody gives a frick because that was 8 years ago. shite has been fixed. Studies done. Either way, Morganza isn’t gonna open because people have irrational fears that disaste is dooming
