Perhaps. You’d be amazed how many historical trends began to separate between 70-80s though.
Care to explain why a chart between value of worker productivity and wages looks basically identical to this chart?
Pretty sure that’s not related to gold standard.
While computing and its advances play a major role: ultimately the fact is (and I’m a conservative), across the entire market, people aren’t being paid what they are worth.
It’s pretty conclusive.
Even if a tool like a computer is helping boost productivity, skill/expertise at using both it and the software a given company uses adds value that the objective data suggests is being taken for granted

I'd be curious to see what they are actually buying. If you go into the store and shop ingredients you can have a nice meal cheap. Tonight we had pork chops with wild rice and green beans.
Chop $4.55
Rice $1.78
Green Beans $.79
I'm pretty sure my wife didn't even finish hers.

Absolutely fricking not.
Your bringing up insulin is damning in the extreme. I get it’s a loaded question, and variants like Humalog have a justified reason to be more expensive. But not base insulin. In fact, the inventor refused to charge royalties on such a lifesaving thing. So why should the companies after him get a pass?

Why have the cost of important drugs like insulin increased in price by 100% since 2012?
Why is baby formula $50 instead of $5?
Why is a ford 150 $50,000?
These are all due to government regulation.

How many of these respondents spent the last decade racking up maxed out credit cards on stupid shite like Disney vacations, designer clothes, $100k vehicles, etc instead of scaling down debt and living under their means?
Frivolous spending to show off for social media for the last 15 years is going to bite a lot of people in the arse. Meanwhile the people who have been living below their means with minimal debt will be the ones staying out of bankruptcy courts or even more embarrassing - staying out of the payroll offices because of wage garnishments.
Remember, student loans being sent to debt collections is going to hit millions that have hit default after the payments started again last year. That's going to exasperate this financial crunch big time.
The people who have lived below their means and saved for rainy days are about to pull out their umbrellas while everyone else gets pushed into the flood water with no life vest.

A lot of people are very bad with money. I'm betting these folks don't budget, at all, spend when they have it and then take out a loan when they need groceries after blowing their check on news jeans, the casino and hair "accessories."
I'm always shocked when people have no idea of how much they regularly pay for stuff they don't need.

Probably because it's like going to the zoo. I went to the zoo once and was viewing the gorillas when one gorilla made eye contact with me and I thought I saw a spark of intelligence in that ape. I thought we had come to some kind of agreement. Then he rolled onto his back and started slapping his feet. He was primate again.

This is why no one believes your lies "I call out both sides" because you only ever call one side of supporters dumb, stupid, etc
You might not agree with the left about men in girls sports, but you never flat out make fun of the whole group as dumb. You support them outside of a few policies so you can't call them dumb because you support the majority of their platform
Just stop trying to pretend because you are not very good at it.

We are a long way from hurting. $70-$90k vehicles all over the road. $15 beers at events and everyone’s got one in their hand. Kids riding $10k golf carts to the neighborhood pool. People paying someone to cut their grass. Car wash subscriptions. I can list 100 more things.
We have a long way to go before I feel sympathy for anyone.
There is a heaping pile of truth in this.
Our daughter thinks NOTHING of ordering fast food from door dash. $20for a Chick Fila sandwich, fries and a drink. Its bad enough that it costs $10 if you go get it but toss in the delivery fees and tips and its outlandish. Starting around 10 AM every day of the week the delivery drivers starts showing up in our neighborhood....everyone is getting something delivered and are constantly bitching about costs and how broke they are LOL....
We have a cleaning crew....its fricking insane. I do the yard work and almost all of the maintenance on the house and vehicles but we have a couple come in and clean twice a month. Except for extremely poor people there are very few Americans who could not cut back on spending drastically if they simply thought about what they were doing....

Competition and innovation aren't driving down costs. No one else willing to raise an eyebrow to this?
The government has allowed far too many corporate mergers. There isn't enough competition because a small handful of mega corporations control every single industry.

Brand new?
I am more concerned with the value of the materials that built the property. Materials during this time period were grossly overinflated.

I feel like it is starting. There is a lot of talk among my friends about getting rid of services like lawn care, cleaning, and pool maintenance. A lot more fixing going on than buying new. A friend works for a children's theater company and enrollment for classes next year are way lower than they were this time last year. Summer camps are not filling up as fast. Pool memberships for the summer are down (both private and country club).
This year is the first in a long time that the bulk of my friends stayed home during spring break. None of the European tours, cruises, Disney, beach resort trips we normally see. It was a topic of dinner with friends last week, they saw it in their extended network too.

Pathetic.
I'd like to know what the average purchase is. Why the F would you finance groceries?
