It’s pretty. And I would be a hypocrite if I criticized people longing for a simple life cordoned off from the world.

But where did Christ instruct his followers to go and separate ourselves from society? The Son of Man, who had no place to lay his head, instructed us to go and make disciples of all nations.

After seeing this awesome place they're building and dealing with a lifetime of bills, work, stress, running on the hamster wheel... I think they might have the right idea all along

You don’t think building that monastery is a bit like running on a hamster wheel? Every day getting up and starting to cut stones? And to what purpose? Creating a tourist attraction?

Beauty is a key element of evangelization. Introduce people to beauty, then show them the truth and they will see the good.

That’s a very Catholic viewpoint, and is no doubt effective. That is one of the things that drove the Protestant Refomation.

Well, the guy I was responding to, who said the life attracted him, was not a Carmelite monk.

That’s all fine and good. But that doesn’t change what I said. Also, Mary Worship is literally pagan and Satanic. So there’s that.

You should go cry about it into your little prepackaged cup of grape juice.

Not if they can capture some geothermal energy and turn that stone into a giant heat sink.

I've said since I was a teenager that if my life completely falls apart, my marriage is somehow ruined, I lose everything - I am taking that vow of silence and becoming a monk.

Spending your life reading and doing minor maintenance in a gothic monastery in Wyoming does sound like a pretty decent existence.

I drink real wine from the common cup every Sunday. I just am not a believer in magic and necromancy or polytheism.

Eta: and one can believe fully in the sacraments and beauty and mystery of them without being a superstitious anti-scientific cultist. But if you want to have your stomach pumped and show me the lab results, I’m all ears.

Whatever you say, little brother. I'm glad my church doesn't require me to be a bitter little bitch about yours. That hate will definitely get you where you want to go.

The only thing I hate is the false gospel, which is no gospel at all.

Where did you pick up on any bitterness and hate toward any victims of Papism? My concern is for the hearts, minds and souls of people who have been deceived by the anathemas of Rome.

And please tell me about Rome’s anathematizing of people who don’t follow the Pope.

Reconcile Trent with both Augustine and the current Pope. I’d like to see it. Tell me about the consistency between Nicea and Vatican II.

All I ask for is honest self-examination of Romanism. All I ever get are strawmen and other terribly fallacious and ahistorical arguments.

Catholic Answers dot com. Gday.

lol the Papal subjects are so lazy, all they can do is downvote. I invited you to defend the deceits of Rome. Nada.
