My neighbor across the street puts this lil guy out whenever her grandkids are playing in the front yard.

They sell them at Costco

Why does it have to specify "blind child" at play? Like drivers are going to be heading around the bend doing 80 in search of small children to plow over, but WAIT, this one is blind. Ok well NOW I'll be careful.

Why not just "child at play" or SLOW or something.

If I see children playing in their front yard while I'm driving, I'm already careful.

The signs do not change my driving behavior at all. I'm already cautious enough as it is driving through residential areas. I don't need a sign to tell me to watch out for children.

There was a one block long street near a funeral home (in Metairie I think), instead of a "Dead End" sign for the street the sign was "No Exit".

Do you think the funeral home had some input on the sign?

There are some little purple cabbage patch kids on my street now that love to play in the road. Whenever I see them I slow down and honk so they don't come running out from behind a car or something. The looks they give me...you'd think I took their ball and stabbed it.
I've already told them once that there is a park just a block down the road with a big open field, but they love to play in the street. I'm just worried one of them is gonna get hit.

I have a friend whose dad was a lawyer in Texas. He had a client that wanted to sue the city because the city didn't put a "Turn around don't drown" sign at EVERY single low water crossing point in the city. As if people need to constantly be reminded that if water is flowing over a road, it may not be the best idea to cross it.

Seems to me that you could only sue for this if someone actually tried to drive across, and actually drowned. I don't think "someone might drown" is grounds for a lawsuit.

I think a sign is quite a reasonable request in that situation. Would not bother me to have one in my neighborhood.

There's a blind school in Lafayette on St. Mary I believe with a similar sign. Always makes me paranoid like all these blind/deaf people are going to come running out in the street like Usain Bolt at any given moment.

I have no problem with this. It's a legititmate concern. Should parents be within sight of their children at all times? Absolutely not, since it robs them of their childhood, blind or not. It would make drivers more cautious, so why not have it?

Yeah, it's pretty proactive. And I think there was just a regular "Children at Play" sign in my neighborhood, right in front of my own yard, when I was growing up.

People just recently started putting "Drive like your kid lives here" signs in my mom's neighborhood. I don't see a problem with this at all.
