define symptoms?

because I'm not getting my daughter tested if she has cold symptoms

I'll assume she has the cold

if she is running a fever with a strong cough, I wouldn't send her to school anyways and would probably get her tested

Ok, stop over analyzing. It was a GMA story I commented on. We aren’t doing this, just saying theoretically it’d be nice if schools weren’t constantly shut down because 1 kid, who is likely asymptomatic, tests positive.

This has happened several times to us.

I'm not overanalyzing.

I'm pretty frankly telling you what parents do all of the time, which is send in their kid sick with symptoms of everything from Whooping Cough to the Flu.

COVID-19 isn't going to be any different. If anything, it'll probably be worse because people are trying to dodge shutdowns.

My wife and I just saw that and said we wish the parents at our kids’ schools would do that to stop it from shutting down again

Bout the dumbest take on here... that’s exactly how a school would be shut down

your school is shutting down over 1 positive test?

You're literally asking people if they'd send in their kids with symptoms. Which is exactly what we're talking about.

They aren’t getting in the door with fever anyway so that’s not an issue. If my kid has a cold they are going to school and it doesn’t even affect work because they are old enough to stay home alone.

Well the class does. 1 kid gets it, the entire class is canceled for 14 days.

Has happened twice to us and probably a dozen times in the whole elementary. Infuriating.

Well if the school is doing their job than they wouldn't be let in if they had fever.

Yep. Dropped my kids off 20 mins ago and as soon as they get out of the vehicle they are checked.

My better half watches GMA. I can't stand it. It's one giant circle jerk of fear porn. But what do you expect when the lead host was a Clinton stooge for years.

Can you imagine how people would freakout if Sarah Sanders or Sean Spicer hosted the morning news?

Yeah GMA is truly a left wing political arm these days. Pre-Trump when they weren’t melty it was solid. I’m not a Trumpkin either, it just gets so exhausting/old to hear it every morning.

I pick my battles though.

The low point was Robin Roberts interview of Jussie Smollett

Happened to my son at noon on Friday. Kid hadn’t been to school since Wednesday,. They took every kid who sits next to him in any class and cancelled them for 14 days. My son sits next to him in science.

News story this morning suggests moms stay quiet and send kids to school because lack of daycare. Would you?

Moms in our area are doing that, but not because of lack of daycare. Many are doing it because they think the virus is a hoax and/or not that dangerous. Many of these moms are stay at home moms.

There has also been some bullying of kids whose parents do report it to the school. It's a huge fricking mess and makes me hate society, because largely a lot of the blame is falling on the schools when they're just following the CDC guidelines.

This half virtual-half home think is killing single mothers and their jobs. I was talking to an LPN the other night and she's probably about to lose her job because the school won't make up their mind and she has a 7 year old that can't stay home by himself.

I don't know what the answer is and I honestly can see both views on the virtual vs. non-virtual thing, but it leaves moms in very bad positions. But if you lie and send your kid to school with a fever and cough, you're pretty irresponsible as a mother and as an adult. But it's hard to remain an employed and responsible adult if you have to stay home every day and still be there to pick up your older son after football practice and be there with him to feed and help with homework.

How do you win? What should a person in a similar situation do?

I wouldn’t send them to school if they’re sick, but kids get sick all the time so also wouldn’t test them for covid.

It's a complete and utter failure of our government at all levels. When schools closed for the year back in March, the virus still being around in the fall was distinct possibility. For teh schools to not have worked day and night over the summer to have a viable solution in place is insanity, but it's hard to blame them when the government has been giving mixed messages that entire time.

We had a parent send their kid to school sick... Little girl tested positive and they had to quarantine the kid's class for two weeks. Fortunately it didn't affect any of the kids. The principal was pissed, and the parent was in deep shite with the school...
