The average American mother of young kids these days is probably unwed and works a cashier job so I can see this

My wife and I just saw that and said we wish the parents at our kids’ schools would do that to stop it from shutting down again

Gonna need pics of the Moms involved before I can make a value judgment.

TIA

No. Although it’s not because of COVID.

Knowingly sending sick kids to school with frank symptoms severe enough for you to notice to spread it around is a pretty shitty act in most circumstances.

I’m actually hoping the school nurse calls her RIGHT when she arrives at work.

They didn’t say they’d send symptomatic kids to school, they said they wouldn’t test for COVID.

Well if the school is doing their job than they wouldn't be let in if they had fever. That should be a no brainer in normal times but unfortunately parents are most of the problem to begin with.
If asymptomatic than I would have no problem with it since there are likely several there anyway that have it and don't know.
At the end of the day children without underlying issues will be fine and it seems to be working in all the schools that started going back in August.

What are we talking about here though? Runny nose and slight cough like they are being retarded about and saying stay home and quarantine your kid for weeks? Might as well not bother spending money on daycare in the winter

Thats where the CDC and guidance fricked up. When you go over the top batshit on your guidelines and lockdowns, people stop listening to everything. Think preachers daughter syndrome

Mixed feelings on this as I understand both arguments.

Guys there is a difference in sending noticeably sick kids to school and just not testing them for COVID when they’re sick.

We wouldn’t send a kid with any sick symptoms to school, period. Whether stomach bug or flu. But if you test for COVID and are positive the entire school can shut down.

What they say and what they actually do are two totally different things.

I saw this when we had a Whooping Cough outbreak two years ago. Sent their kid right in with barking cough and all. Fought us when we told Mom that due to the cough (which is pretty disruptive) she couldn't be in class per health guidelines. She was more concerned with her not missing her AP Chemistry class quiz. We ended up having to exclude her until we got a doctor's statement saying she was no longer contagious. The parent took it all the way to the Board.

Kid ended up with multiple cracked ribs because she was coughing so hard.

I didn’t see the news bit, but it’s right there in the OP: “if your kid was having symptoms”

Ok, stop over analyzing. It was a GMA story I commented on. We aren’t doing this, just saying theoretically it’d be nice if schools weren’t constantly shut down because 1 kid, who is likely asymptomatic, tests positive.

This has happened several times to us.
