re: Mobile locals, how do y'all feel about the summer tunnel situation?

I hate it!!! I understand going east from three or four lanes to two, but heading west from two lanes, it baffles me as to why traffic stops for no reason.

But I've got to be able to honk my horn going through the tunnel!

Was completely closed earlier this week, not sure about this weekend. Cochran/Africatown bridge is another option.
Also, it will add about an hour to your drive but you can take 65 north in Mobile and cross the delta on I-65. Once you cross the delta, take the first exit south.(Hwy 225) This will bring you to Spanish Fort with easy access back to 1-10 on the east side of the bay. Longer drive but better than sitting in traffic.

Luckily there is an alternate route to avoid the hordes of tourists that shite their pants when they see the tunnels. Growing up in Mobile, it was not always this bad.

Those toll booths in Florida are a bigger pain in the arse. People wait until they're at the booth to dig out their money.

Spend the night in Covington and enjoy dozens of chargrilled oysters at Acme. Leave at 7:00am the next morning and drive to dauphin island to catch the ferry to fort Morgan.

Springing for a hotel isn't worth 20 minutes of tunnel traffic

It has gotten worse and worse over the years. East bound is the major problem.
They just eliminated on entrance ramp which may help a little.
There are three other ways to bypass the Wallace tunnel - of course two of those put you on the causeway and that can get backed up bad too at times. Bankhead is the shortest of the alternatives. Cochran bridge requires you to drive 10 Miles north on 65 or 6 Miles or so on 165, and then turn around and drive the same distance back.
And the ferry? Not a bad choice if you want to take the scenic route...but it's no short trip either.
Of course, Byrne and "big lootha" (AG who was supposedly investigating Gov Burns.....until the gov appointed him to us senate) tell everyone they are going to get a bridge.....

Amateur. You've got to spray your winshield washer in the tunnel so the yokels think the tunnel is leaking and a collapse is imminent.

Honestly, I'm not sure as to why people don't take this journey overnight to avoid all the drama with the tunnel. Just leave late and drive through the night incident free.
No traffic. Made a 360 in the tunnel at 2AM once, on a dare...

I guess i'm lucky. I go that way maybe 2-3 times per year and have gotten stuck in traffic once heading back to BR.

Take the old tunnel. Even on days the interstate is backed up for miles you can get off and get through the old tunnel in under 10 minutes.
