I think if speech endangers the public, it should be suppressed. Think of screaming fire in a crowded movie theater or publishing plans for a pipe bomb on the front page of your newspaper.

That's a very different line than saying we should erase all memory of a certain event. No one was rallying around these statues trying to drum up support for the Confederacy. This was a totally manufactured controversy, and smacks of erasing history for political gain.

PS, all of the previous examples I gave can be found in Europe still (Kaiser, Napoleon, Cromwell, etc).

P.T Beauregard hired blacks to work for his company. He had black people that actually ran and supervised whites. He championed for all freed slaves to have the right to vote.

He did all this publicly. Go read a fricking book. He was creole, so he himself knew the pains of not fitting in when he lived in New York. The racists in the north were hell on him
