frick you to those presuming suicide before anyone knew who it was.

And you would be talking about me. I was 100% sure that this kid left on his own the day it was announced. If you can't be honest when presented with facts, I don't know what to tell you other than I feel sorry for you.
Its a terrible thing that happened and noone may ever know why he did it. I hope that his family can find peace.

I know this guy went missing either the day, or the day before Gleason was arrested for killing people he found walking near the street. I must say that it was noticeable that Gleason did not have a military haircut as described in the bolo, yet the Advocate made certain to mention that Nickelotte did. Is there a connection? Both men were children of good people that had LSU connections.

I love a conspiracy theory but I have no idea what you're getting at.

Are you implying that Nickelotte had something to do with the shootings?

Because according to this article, the police linked Gleason to one of the shootings by DNA, plus there seems to be a ton of other evidence against him.

Nickelotte was in ROTC at LSU, which is an easy explanation to why he had a military-style haircut.

It really is sad. See that big smile on his face in that pic and knowing how his story ended makes my heart hurt. Suicide is such a sad deal for anyone that's ever been affected by it. So young with a seemingly bright future. I wish these kids could see that whatever he was going through was only a blip on the large radar of his life.

Rest in Peace, Michael. I hope God can somehow help his family find some peace eventually.

During my college orientation we had a guy that was in my group who was a loner, was quiet, sat by himself at lunch and dinner.
One night I heard noise outside and saw the cops going to the guys room. Eventually his dad showed up and was trying to get him to come out of the room. I remember his voice speaking to his son being in such pain calling for him.
I heard later that he committed suicide and could only think of his poor father that loved him so and was desperately trying to help his son.
I can not imagine how this young man's family feels today, but hope they find peace.

A good friend's 16 yo son committed suicide. He apparently called his parents before he did it to say "goodbye" although he didn't let on his intentions. She said he ended the conversations with, I love you. Something he didn't normally do and she replied with, Aww baby you're so sweet I love you too. So sad.

I downvoted you because as the friend of someone who committed suicide 11 years ago, I had no idea he was going through so much and had so many demons. He kept it to himself. Lots of times people need to simply talk things out. We (rest of our group of close friends) were completely shocked at it. It came out of the blue.

Please, if anyone reading this has issues and has ever considered suicide, please talk to someone, anyone, or me. Suicide is not the answer and it leaves those who love you with a hole that can never be filled. It leaves them with guilt. It leaves them broken. Please just talk, those you think don't care actually do care deeply, much more than you may think. We all have our own ways of showing compassion and love and sometimes our way may not be direct, leading others to think we don't care but we do.

This is such a sad, sad situation. Many prayers to his family and friends. They will need them. And prayers for his soul.

So, this is all about you?

I wish I had words for the parents. You didn't do anything wrong. He loved you, I promise.

I have been suicidal two times during my life. Not a specific point in time, but depression spanning months. As others have said, it wasn't necessarily an active thing, more a "I don't care if I am here anymore".

I told family, and they blew it off. That changed our relationship forever. I said I was in pain, and thinking about suicide and they acted like they never heard me speak. I had gone through some physical trauma at the hands of a stranger and they knew this. It was hard seeing your family sweep the skeletons in to the closet.

People who kill themselves think they are doing the world a favor. The fear, self-doubt, sadness and self-loathing is consuming. A lot of times, no one else can see the sickness inside. Which is why you can't blame yourself if you are directly impacted by suicide.

Love others and let yourself be loved. None of us are alone.
