How do you think people move up from being poor? By getting high paying jobs out of HS with no training?

Small business owner with 6 hourly employees. Secretary makes $20 an hour and the others make between $30-37. Paying someone under $15 will get you nothing but crap employees. Pay them good and they'll stick with you. We never cycle through employees, part of the reason is because they are paid good. Every one of those employees have been with us for 3+ years. Same goes for the salesmen with us too, pay them a higher percentage and they'll want to work for you and stick around.
Workers comp, general liability, and taxes are 10x harder on small businesses than a few bucks an hour higher pay. I'd be embarrassed to say I was paying someone something close to minimum wage.
Edit: Good god I didn't know the minimum wage in Louisiana is $7.25, wtf Wow

You do realize you can’t take out a loan without either collateral, good credit, or good income. Something poor people don’t have. Multiple jobs mean no time to better self too.

How are they supposed to afford to pay for the education and certifications to better themselves if they can’t get a job without those skills that pays a wage that meets cost of living?
30-40 years ago you could get a job out of high school where you could learn those skills on the job (and they paid for a lot of those certs), without a college degree, and without 5 years of “experience”.
We’ve effectively created a gap in labor as a result.
