Mind-blowing Space Factoid of the Day

Objects in orbit are constantly falling. Their lateral movement just continually keeps them from crashing into the planetary body.

The best way to visualize this is to think about firing a cannon with more and more gunpowder each time so the cannonball goes further with each shot, and the curvature of the earth eventually provides a little extra altitude as the ground moves away from the shot.
Eventually the cannonball is shot with enough force that the ground is always curving away from it, and the cannonball is always falling towards that ground. That’s orbit.

I literally blew my teacher’s mind with this in the 9th grade.
In the world of KSP, we have progressed into even further mind blowing stuff.
But keeping into the thread of the OP, does he realize that the Moon is continually falling into the Earth?
The Earth is continually falling into the Sun?
And that the Sun is continually falling into a black hole?
And all three (except maybe the black hole-Sun) are trading energy to push them further and further out? The moon is slowing the earth’s rotation to boost it to a higher orbit.

Is this a fat joke?
It sounds like a fat joke.
You should be more compassionate to fatties.

Understanding this is the basis for any level of success in KSP.
