Go look in a place like Des Moines. You can find good schools, job market, low crime and a decent house for 150k
Yep same throughout much of the Midwest. Also Idaho, Eastern Washington...

You mean to be able to owe a bank $170k plus interest for the next 30 years?
A house note is not a bill, it’s an investment/savings acct.
Rent is a bill like water. You paying someone else’s investment. Zero return.

As many as 70% of the baby boomers – born between 1942 and 1964 – were part of the middle class in their 20s, compared with 60% of millennials – born between 1983 and 2002 – at the same point in life,
There's a joke in here about not being allowed in the middle class because you live in your mom's basement, but it's true, so I won't say anything else about it to protect millennial feels.

I’m just saying that in general....low cost of living area are that way for a reason. There is something that makes that area less than ideal to live at.
Wow, groundbreaking information.

So now we've officially moved to $200k even though the whole premise was $170k?
Asking, not selling.

Millenials refuse to leave cities and the coast.

Sure there may be exceptions...but for the most part...170k is not getting you a decent single family home in desirable areas in most parts of the U.S.
Decent and desirable are subjective.
The median cost of a home is around 200k in the country (median price of homes sold 280k) that leaves a lot of very affordable homes in the country.
The median housing price in Ohio is 160k.
Here's a list of median prices in cities across the country

Here is the ultimate question though that some of you whiners refuse to answer:
when demand vastly exceeds supply re housing market, and thus prices soar, what exactly is to be done?
what exactly do you guys want to be done to reduce home prices down to what your parents faced at your age?

Millennials aren't whining like the media makes you think dude
don't mind roommates or small homes and more leisure time
we prefer location and lifestyle over rotting away in the middle of nowhere

The most millennial thing in this thread. If you can't get your way, you'll just rot away

Posted on 4/11/19 at 11:00 pm to RogerTheShrubber
how we going to rot living on coasts and cities?
rotting is the Sunbelt or Alaska

Talk about being geographically challenged. Damn, you're really in a bind. Rotting away with no knowledge about which direction to go
I always figured you for a college kid living off parents money, not a millennial

I know why you’re getting downvoted but you’re absolutely right. If you find a house for under 200k in NOLA, or in BR or on the north shore, you are either out in BFE or you are in a horrible area
That’s bullshite

I bought my first house in kenilworth 6 years ago for $198k and there were several houses cheaper in the same neighborhood. A starter house is supposed to either need updating or be small as frick, problem is that’s not how people think anymore. You can find these houses in every decent to good neighborhood. We ended up selling that house 4 years later for $265k.
