You're paying them regardless of the system.
Exactly.
One of my favorite restaurants here has a 4-course tasting menu that used to be $68. They’ve changed it to $95 with tip included and that is shared with the kitchen.
I really like that system.

If I’m alone, I’ll tip $2 max. Regardless of what I order. It shouldn’t be hard to take care of one person. And that’s even when I eat with coworkers during lunch and the checks are split.
Servers dont do shite. I tip 15-20% because I know what they make, but I already know what I want. I dont need an explanation of the menu, I drink water normally. Depends on the restaurant if they bring the food out. I actually like to be left alone.

I would not complain about higher prices if I don't have to tip but I would complain about poor service.
Tell me something, you don't tip the cook. Does that mean you don't complain if your food tastes bad? Should employees only do their job well if they are getting tipped?
I really don't care one way or another. But having lived overseas for several years, I can tell you don't expect the same level of service you get here in the US if we move to that model.
The motivation for excellent service here in the US is the good tips. Take that away, and the level of service will adjust accordingly. And not in a good way.

I think tipping in general is a stupid concept but I still play the game and tip well.
You are going to pay for service one way or the other. Tipping allows you to reward success and quality service. Paying someone hourly does not, but you’ll pay the same prices regardless, or your service and/or food quality will take a hit when restaurants have to balance labor and food cost. If people don’t like the system, I would suggest going to a food truck or buffet where service is a non issue.

Nearly two-thirds of Millennials typically tip below the standard 20 percent suggestion for tips at restaurants, while about half of adults older than 38 say they tip less than 20 percent when eating out, according to a new Creditcards.com study.
The standard is 15%.
I almost universally tip 2-3 dollars because either a) we've split the checks and I'm typing based only on what I'm eating or b) I'm eating out with only one other person.
I've tipped more in situations where I felt like we stayed at the table too long or perhaps that the other people I was eating with weren't tipping sufficiently.
I hate the practice of tipping though tbh.

Tipping is stupid. The sooner we get rid of it the better. In the meantime we will all continue to maintain mental records of how much every worker’s wage is to determine whether the worker needs our gratuity to live.
I like the system because gives me an opportunity to distinguish myself as not being a piece of shite so that when I go back to my local spots they know to make sure that I'm taken care of.

I usually tip almost exactly 20% because I can easily do the math in my head
I adjust (for no real reason) so that my final amount is even. So it's it 40.08, I'll tip 7.92.
Also when the frick did 20% become the norm?

I tip 15-18% on average but if the service sucks, I don't leave sh!t except maybe a dime or quarter just so they get the message.. Sorry but I'm not tipping you if I never get a refill offer or you never bring part of my order that I asked you to check on for me.
The thing I have a big problem with is the auto gratuity for groups of 6+ or whatever the restaurant rule is.

15% for standard service (which is not easy to find)
Above and beyond service, 18%+
What pisses me off is, tip jars at counter service restaurants. A new pizza place opened in Montgomery that is counter service only. They don't refill your drink or take orders at the table, but they expect a tip when you place your order at the register (after waiting in line). I went once, won't go back. Took my order, I TIPPED, and they screwed up and didn't put my order in. I don't expect them to be in business long.

So a $30 lunch for just your bill and you tip $2?
i've got worse problems if i'm spending $30 on myself for a lunch with no alcohol. plus, if i go to lunch with 5 other people that tip $2+, that's a pretty hefty tip. frick you entitled little bitches that think you're worth more than that. get a real job.
and what i really hate is places like Moe's where they make the food in front of you and when you go to check out, they ask for a tip amount on the receipt. you kiddin' me? i have to wait in line while you fix my food and get handed a cup to fix my own drink? get the hell out of here.

Millennial here. Tip 15% almost every time. If the servers think they are entitled to be tipped 20% of my entire meal they can just get a different job. What if my meal was $150? They should get $30 just for bringing a couple plates and refilling drinks?
It's not about being cheap it just doesn't make any sense. The other day I had a young pregnant waitress while eating breakfast. My bill was like $15, but she was so nice and helpful I gave her $20. Nothing needs to be set in stone.

15% is for standard, expected service. Anything above that is for great to exceptional service.

Ditto. Those employees are making a standard wage, not a server's wage. They're not getting a fricking tip.

Double the tax and round up (approx 18%) for adequate/good service, better than good service 20+%.

Why not?I have many occasions. Why dont you? Because society says so?
Oh yeah, you dont tip anyone anyway. Nevermind

Okay, then they “get a real job” and shitty replacements are hired. Now you complain that all the good servers are gone and service is terrible now. And how is that not a “real job”?
