I'm 34 as well and in the same boat. Took a job out of college in a field related to my major, but it was also in a very poor part of the country. The cheap cost of living help to stretch my salary, but I lived well within my means, saved early, paid off debt fast as possible etc. As jobs changed and salaries increased I stayed this course and we're sitting well. Until it all comes crashing down in 24.

Is it actually beneficial going forward to put a lot away for that? Seems like a waste in the long run.
Explain

Perfect time to have this thread. Just got my homeowners renewal and it’s going to be >10k next year. It has doubled in 2 years and more than tripled in 3 years. Even if my house was paid off, (it’s not bc I have 2.75% interest) I’ll be playing close to $20,000 per year just in insurance and property taxes. Talk about a kick in the balls.

What is the approximate value of your house? Where are you located?

Thats me, though. And with a pond, porch, shed, and baby it's wonderful.

Eta: also lol at the video games inclusion. Easily one of the cheapest entertainment options out there.
