I know that PJs were there. I still don’t see how picking up people on rooftops in the United States justifies their existence. Do we need medics who can halo/scuba/kill people with a spork to be able to come to the rescue in a hurricane? I mean it’s neat that they were there but it’s not like it had to be the PJs and only the PJs. If the PJs didn’t exist those people still would’ve been rescued.

The 82nd might even beat the Marine Corps when it comes to being motarded.

If I wanted to look "Speical Forces type" to impress people, but not really want to be killed or in the shite, would this be the best way:

join 82nd airborne and then go to Ranger School to be tabbed Ranger

Looks legit with the tab, people love Ranger school, but Im still just a leader in the 82nd

Please advise

Anyone trained to stay in the ocean, at night, through tropical weather, for days and even sleep if necessary is a complete badass and can’t be compared

If the need arose to start rescuing downed pilots by the bushel I’m sure the Army or Marines could handle it as they’ve done in the past. And frankly I have a hard time imagining that scenario anyway. If we go to war with Russia or China our pilots shot down behind enemy lines are SOL because it would simply be to dangerous to send a helicopter in to rescue them. And if it’s not too dangerous then there’s no need to have such a highly specialized unit to do it.

I agree with you, I'm only saying the PJ's is a very small unit. Of all the things the Military wastes money on and has shared ability, this seems like an odd complaint.

I find that hard to believe. It's a well known fact that the sun never comes out here.

Is there a rough number on the current SF,SOFs in the military right now? There is roughly 2500 active seals so I would think 5k at least.

Sounds like we need to start disbanding the regular military and give more roles to SFs or start cross training the SF and whittle the SF down. I say we start with the PJs.

SOCOM = 69000
-JSOC = 4000
-USASOC = 32500
-MARSOC = 3200
-NSWC = 10000
-AFSOC = 18000

Obviously it's much smaller if you're just sticking to actual operators. Delta and ST6, SF and Rangers, Raiders, SEALs and SWCC, CCTs, PJs, and SOWTs.

Ranger School only make you Ranger qualified.
Best way would be to join the Marine Corps and be admin or something since the typical civilian thinks all marines are special operations.

They get stuck with all the 18X rejects too so that adds an extra level of misery.

Right but most civilians don't know the difference in the tab and the scroll.

Well, you don't have to be tabbed to join a ranger battalion so that seems like the best way to fake it.

Not initially, but you'll get RFS'd if you don't eventually get your tab. Or never get promoted past Spc and never hold any sort of leadership billet.
