What college is in Hammond?

Southeastern.

Lived there for about 7 years - highly recommend it. Quiet town, minimal crime. Great food and night life, I miss Mariner's and Tommy's downtown like crazy. They've got the usual corporate pits, but some truly spectacular mom and pops.

I visited Hammond several times to hang out with some high school buddies that attended SLU, and it didn't seem that bad.

Agree.

Is this a situation similar to the board's opinion of Slidell, where the city isn't particularly great, but is still better than 80% of the other towns in Louisiana?

Disagree.

Okay. I honestly didn't know there was a college in the area. Makes sense now.

I live in an area where the median income is near $45k and don't think it's really upscale or nice. It's kinda distant from the next biggest town of like 30k. But Jax State is nearby, and it has a similar median income as Hammond, but is a nice place to live as an adult.

All the people saying Hammond is crap and St Tammany is so much better are failing to mention the horrendous traffic as soon as you leave Tangi Parish.

FYI, starter homes have skyrocketed in price. $180k homes a year ago are now going for $230+.

If you buy a house, check the flood maps. There was a bad flood in 2016, and a lot of house listings specifically list if the house didn't flood then.

Darwin’s waiting room, no doubt.
Funny enough the ponchatoula Walmart is relatively deformity free.

as in any small town surrounded by rural poverty...stay out of discount retailers, convenience stores more than 0.5 miles from an interstate exit, and all public buildings.

I’ll go weeks and even months without being reminded of what’s behind the door.

St Tammany

St Tammany people and Texans have a lot in common. Very inflated sense of pride, and think that everywhere that isn't there is terrible.

If I ever had to live on the Northshore, I'm moving to Hammond over Mandeville or Covington, and it isn't close.

St. Tammany is full of people that can't afford Old Metairie.

Brunch at One Thirteen is full of beautiful girls and the food is solid. Cate St and Cena have also been good. Downtown Hammond is nice with a good Saturday farmers market.
