Hotels don’t ask me to upkeep the property while I’m there.

The onus of cleanliness in short term rentals has always been on the property manager. Not the guest. The guest can’t tear the property up. That’s it.
The real issue is that you people want a quick buck without doing your job. If I shite on the floor, that’s on me. If I damage the property, that’s on me. If I leave dirty dishes in the sink, that’s your job. That’s why I’m paying you the money. Clean it up.

you sound like the bitch that OP is complaining about. There’s a place for both hotels and vacation rentals, we travel a lot domestically and use both. I know going in what the trade off will be
If I want to park in a driveway steps from the door, have a full kitchen and room to spread out, not deal with elevators, hundreds of other people, noise and other detritus of humanity I’m happy to take the trash cans to the curb in return
