Grizzly Smith, Cowboy Bill Watts and Dirty Dick Murdoch say hello

They wrestled weekly at Independance Hall in BR. I always remember them getting the plug in for promoted by Jimmy Kilshaw.

All of those guys had apartment off of Stan Dr., close to Choctaw and Sherwood Forest. They frequented the convenience store on the corner. I think it was a 7-11 back then.

When I was a kid, around 1970 my dad and his best friend took several of us to "Dixie Wrestling" in Baton Rouge. We saw Grizzly Smith and Luke Brown wrestle some guys with masks on, can't remember the names. Anyway, in an earlier match two guys were fighting and one hit the other and the one that was hit said "What did you do that for?" (we were at ringside because we were kids) That's when I realized "Rasslin' ain't real". Broke that 11 year old little boy's heart. lol

Damn, I thought blackham was so old, Lafayette was built around it.

Early 80s in Dallas during the heyday of the Von Erics and Freebird rivalry was awesome. Spent many evenings at the Sportarorium.

There would be events come to local high school football fields. A ring would be set up close to one sideline and crowds would fill the bleachers.

We were having little league practice at the college baseball field in Monticello AR and Mid South was in town for a show later that night. Jake the snake walks up and starts talking to our coach and asks if he can help with warm-ups. My friend precedes to take a grounder right in the face off the bat of Jake. His claim to fame is Jake the snake blacked his eye when he was 11.

Ha! Loved Reisor. I remember he would start introducing Ernie Ladd and before he could finish the big Cat would say "Shut up Reisor - the people out in TV land want to hear me not you".

And Jimmy Cornett would always tease him about his suits. "You must have been something before electricity Reisor"!

ICW (International Championship Wrestling) used to come to our area. Renegade organization ran by Randy Savage and Lanny Poffos dad. This was before Savage made the big time. Randy was the champ but, they had a lot of other guys who would end up being stars in the NWA.

My fraternity, I would guess in 1985, held a date party where we told our dates it was a formal event and to wear their best dresses, but instead we took them in rented buses to the Centroplex for mid-south wrestling.

Baw culture was much stronger and women had a much better sense of humor in those days.

Back in the day, the Baton Rouge state fair would bring in wrestling sometimes. Saw a no holes barred match between Bruiser Brody and Abdullah the Butcher. There was blood everywhere when they were done

Back in the day, I went to a Midsouth show in Lake Charles. During the show Paul Ellering ran to the ring and took the microphone from Jim Ross. He was going off on some of the other wrestlers. He had new nicknames for them,
Jake the Rake Roberts, Dirty Rhodes, Paul Orndork, and a few others. They all came down and chased him around the ring a couple of times until he ran off.

A couple of days later I wound up going to see it in Alexandria. It was the same exact show. Still enjoyed it.

Wrong

It was Warrior, at least that is what Skandor Akbar called him.

Kamala Slam Andre. Much better than the one Hogan gets credit for.

Was he a news anchor for a local Shreveport TV station? I ran into Buck Robley a few times at the Fairgrounds betting on horses.
