The Lexus or Tahoe.
Parts are cheap on either and to some people they are classics now.

'06 - '09 4Runner Limited 4x4 with the V8. I've wanted this as a toy for a while now

I recommend a 430 Lex with convertible top or an old school Caddy with the diamond in the back

For what?
Offroad? First gen xterra or third gen 4 runner.
On road? 2007 is350
Truck? The 05ish duramax was the tits.
Or...if you're looking to buy now... Japanese and body on frame.

I mean it's a two door with no cargo space but it's a decent driver to get back and forth to the office with.

The 4th gen ('03-'09) 4runner is the red headed stepchild in terms of looks, but if you can find an '06 V8 that fits your budget it will likely provide more fun + reliability + value than anything else from that era.

Lexus....... By far. Fewer repairs per 1000 cars

Live a little man. Find a nice (no stories) 6 spd example of an E46 M3 drive it for a few years and sell it for more than you paid for it. You will have owned one of the best drivers cars of that decade and arguably the best iteration of the M3.

I don't think a 10+ year old German car would be wise for a college student unless he is good with working on cars

It for offered mostly in jest, he has an Avalon on his list for Christ sake. That said the buying is the hard part, find a good one with complete service records and they are an amazingly dependable car especially with an engine having an 8000 rpm redline.
I assume (and appreciate) he is a sensible young man but there is something sad to a petrolhead like myself seeing that list of cars at his age. I mean the only thing left is a minivan in that downward spiral.
The real answer from his list would be a ES 330 it is a 500k mile car that is dirt cheap prts/labor for the few if any repairs it will need.

Cars aren't for some people I guess. When I was in college I had a Crossfire then a W204 Benz coupe
The OP could find a 7-8 year old W204 coupe with around 100k miles for around $11k if he wanted something a little sporty.

Then get an ES or Avalon. Save the extra gas money for your natty lite and weed fund.
