Linkedin is an excellent site for keeping up with former collegues and being able to see filtered lists of job postings in your area. No reason to bitch about it if you ignore the facebook type news feed and just use the site for what it was made for.

Recruiters swarm around LinkedIn. Got my current job through a recruiter soliciting me on LinkedIn.

It's pretty easy to see the value of Facebook and LinkedIn is about as close as you get to it plus there are many professional and business reasons to it. I'm not saying it's worth $26 billion, but I can certainly see why a company like Microsoft would own it.

Plus they bought it in freaking cash. $26 billion in cash, I mean what else should they of bought instead?

Like this guy said ^

For someone who prints money like Microsoft, this is a literal drop in the bucket. They won't have to see much return to get their money's worth.

It teeters between idle resume database and spammy social network. Hopefully new ownership will help. It's been a while since I've been endorsed by a distant former colleague for a skill I sort of have.

Did the LA bar ever make a rule determination on LinkedIn skills?

I remember it being debatable as an ethics violation to list what you were "good" at, like Board Certification, so essentially making it useless for lawyers.

Ya, at these CLEs they'd throw around this idea it might get you in trouble so I just removed it all and haven't kept up with it.

It seems to be flooded with realtors, insurance agents, and website developers who try to solicit business. I really don't care for the website.

Would be great if they connect my Xbox live account to LinkedIn, then I could get my professional gaming career started

Know what's really crazy? LinkedIn had a valuation of approximately $36.2B as recently as November 2015.

I remember when they first started talking about it. It's ridiculous. They are killing the profession.

What are you going to do if someone gets endorsed for "litigation" but only has a caseload of which less than 10% are in litigation? Are you going to take a hard look at it?

Besides, isn't the point of the bar exam to say you're competent to practice LAW, not some particular area?

I believe it. Advertising, brand recognition, and people actually pay for premium accounts lol

Ya, it seemed ridiculous.

They were pretty close to saying that if you stated "I do compliance work" in a conversation then you are violating those rules, since that's all LinkedIn is really doing.

I surely didn't realize the Linkedin was worth that kind of money.. I would have guessed 3-4 billion maybe but not 26, wow!
