When I was a kid, they had 16 parades. One every night for 11 nights, 1 each Sunday afternoon, 3 on Mardi Gras day. Never even attempted to compete with NOLA parades. But for the most party, they were decent, well most of them (I'm looking at you, Diana). As a younger kid, I had fun at them.
The captains say bands don't want to do it? Because bands don't want to be in crappy parades, people don't come out for crappy parades.
I think they really need a change. People seem to like that Family Gras thing, so go with that. Force the parades to roll around that.
Keep the Mardi Gras Day parades the same.
Everything else rolls the first weekend:
Friday night is ladies night: Isis, Athena, Pandora
Saturday night, Hail Caesar
Sunday afternoon. Excalibur
Sunday night, Centurions and Napoleon
Forcing them 2-3 parades together like that might actually make it appear like 1 decent parade, which should help attendance and bands.
No one should ever expect it to be 10 percent of what New Orleans is... but we could a decent family option.

I think a lot of it started with so many people wanting to ride in NOLA parades. There have been 2 new lady's groups started in NOLA that have popped up in last 10 years that are full up.
I know Thoth, Endymion, bacchas, tucks, etc are full every year.
Lots of new marching groups have joined up with these krewes too.
I like your suggestions for the most part.

My vote...get rid of the Metairie parades Monday thru Thursday that most families with young kids skip anyway because of school nights. Let uptown have the weekday parades to themselves since thats where the younger partying crowd and the tourists would be going.
Move current weekday krewes to time slots that are back-to-back with the Fri-Sat-Sun parades. 2-3 parades back to back will draw bigger crowds than just 1 parade.

The bands want too much money.

Zeus was the only parade I ever went to Metairie for growing up.

The only Monday-Thursday parade they have now is Pandora, the new one that started last year and took the spot of Zeus. And I agree, move it off that night
