i think it's the opposite, actually. i would wager that if you drill down into the psychology of it, she feels ashamed that not only could she not beat a bunch of 14 y/o kids at a sport she's trained her whole life for, but her entire sport is subsidized by men. she knows deep down that on its own, womens soccer wouldn't exist. so instead of listening to that shame and being grateful, she does everything she can to convince herself that feeling isn't there, which is why she has to make you believe whatever she claims to.

I would love to see her play running back in the NFL and get smoked by the defense. Then tell me there is no difference between men and women in sports.

Rapinoe is also bitter that the single most iconic moment of women's soccer in America is when one of the straight players took her jersey off and celebrated in her sports bra.
