The machine is very difficult to clean from what I understand from a former manager.

Why is McDonald’s the only place that has ice cream issues?

The machines are a bitch to clean. That’s the issue. They just say they’re broken when they’re actually clean.

That is part of a small problem, but if they are actually breaking could it be time to purchase new machines because some of them could be failing due to age, or if they were recently updated or upgraded they could have got a bad design. Some of these machines could be almost 20 years old.

Has McDonald’s ever done the research to see why the frequency of broken ice cream machines is so much higher in places like Alabama instead of places like Iowa?

McD’s gets POS data from every store so it would be a fairly easy analysis to see where employees are “breaking” the ice cream machine.

1. Build demand projection by store on ice cream related items.
2. Track POS against said ice cream products
3. Rank regional directors on performance
4. Publish to the organization

Track, rank, publish. This issue would get resolved if McD’s put even the smallest amount of effort against it from HQ.

No need to even do that. Type into google "McDonalds ice cream" and you get results about their machine being broken. What amazes me is it has taken this long for them to seriously want to address this loss of sales.

Good luck to McDonald’s enforcing minimum-wage employees to quit lying about broken shake machines. Shake machines don’t break with the frequency McDonald’s employees claim they are.

It’s now spread to the Five Guys closest to my house. I don’t think for a second their shake machine is broken, either.
