He is technically right. Everyone is just assuming the picture of one mug equals one since the picture of two mugs equals two, but that is not necessarily how these variables work.

No. The mugs are the exact same. Therefore, if two mugs equals two, one mug equals one. The answer is 15. But as usual, the OT always delivers the lolz in math threads.

These equations contain three variables and have to be solved simultaneously.
You can't just say "two mugs equals two, one mug equals one".

No, they contain 3 variables. The mug is a variable, let's call it "x." Two mugs is 2x.

That's not how this works. Equation three provides a variable, that happens to be a picture of two mugs. Equation three establishes that this variable equals two. Equation four provides a different variable that happens to be a picture of one mug. You are just assuming that this new variable is half of the equation three variable because of what the picture is of. Technically, this variable has never been defined.
Just gonna have to agree to disagree on what these pictures actually represent.

Equation one
A + A + A = 30
A + B + B = 20
B + C + C = 9
B + D X A = ?
You are just assuming that D is 1/2 C because of the picture used. Nowhere does any equation define what D is. It's a trick question due to using the picture of two mugs and one mug. They tricked you.
