Most of our really important stuff (military, power plants, etc.) is inherently protected against such.

The power lines themselves will mostly be unaffected; transformers, switches, step down stations, and such will need to be replaced. We’ve got a lot of experience with that though, so returning power to the vital areas won’t take too long.

Most of your consumer electronics won’t be affected, at least not so much as to make them inoperative. And I’d guess that most of our top level electronic services (google servers, telecom companies, etc.) would be mostly shielded from a CME.

An ejection strong enough to really “wipe out” our entire modern civilization would produce so much radiation that electronics would be the least of our problems. Earth’s natural defenses are actually fairly robust.
