WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A man is under arrest for armed robbery, nearly two years after investigators say he terrorized a couple driving home from dinner.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said DNA evidence from a skeleton mask found in the middle of the road near the crime scene led investigators to 43-year-old Yoannes Aleman.

The couple told deputies after they got out of the car, two heavy-set masked men with guns rushed over. The victims said the masked men took their cell phones and key to the car. According to the arrest report, one man hopped into the driver's seat and tried to put the car in drive, but failed. One victim told deputies the man ran back to the pickup truck but his mask fell into the road.

Five months later, investigators received a possible DNA match from evidence on the black skeleton face mask to a profile in Florida's DNA database. It identified Aleman as a potential suspect. More testing confirmed the connection, according to the arrest report.

Aleman is due in court Thursday morning. Investigators said Aleman has a criminal past. Deputies arrested him for carjacking and kidnapping in a separate case, eight days after the armed robbery of the couple.
