Well that's kinda how it started. We always pick on each other and she has been spending stupid money on herself as of late. She makes 35k a year aND blows it like it's min wage. I told her that I could make her salary and live comfortable. I was just trying to make a long story short. She probably spends 35k a year just on stupid stuff.

If you are single only making 35k a year you could
possibly scrounge by.

But good luck being a guy trying to date with that salary

Sounds like a divorce is in your future if she is that bad with money.

You need to get that in check. Most marriages end because one spouse can't control their money.

If only $300 per month left over for social expenses, then no.

If you know how to grocery shop and cook efficiently for yourself you could make it work for sure.

I don't think 200/mo is enough for cell phone, Internet, car ins, water though

The amount you drove a day would need to be small too.

You are also rarely going to have new clothes or shoes . A surprise car repair may frick your budget too.

Well I'm guessing 35k a year would be about 2k a month estimate.

$750 house note (small house remember your by yourself)
$80 electricity
$50 for live stream tv
$200 savings
$300 play money
$200 miscellaneous bills

And yo still have plenty money left over for food and gas

Gas for what? I don't see car insurance in there or water/sewage/gas. Or cell phone.

Eta- forgot the 200 miscellaneous, Still wouldn't be enough to cover it for me. I'd have to go to another area or move to a halfway house.

I was boasting and told her that if I were single I could make a budget that would allow me a house, and still save on 35k a year.

You'd live in a really shitty house

And hopefully you'd already have your car paid off in this budget

I don't think you'd be saving much. You'd save just enough to have an emergency fund that would be periodically depleted.

I mean sure I could live off of that but I would have to just rent a room if I wanted to stay in my same area, sell my car and get an old beater and I wouldn't be able to go out often but I could survive like a college kid no problem. The good thing would be taxes basically don't exist at that level so at least you would get to keep the vast majority of the money. Also, if I was only making that much I would assume I wasn't self-employed so I could get someone else to pay for my insurance....and maybe even my car and gas.

Now that I think about it if I had no taxes, car payment, gas, taxes and insurance and cleared 35k that would be equal to AT LEAST my first 75k now so ya I could do it.

You'd also be sitting on a lawn chair with bare white walls inside your home, hah.

Tell me about it. I just make little comments to try and get her thinking, but it hasn't worked. I told her if she ever touches our savings without running it past me we would have some issues. Luckily we are comfortable, but if it gets out of hand wr will actually have to have a serious talk about it.

Uhh, yes, easily. And with plenty of play money.

What kind of world do you guys live in where this seems even remotely undoable?

When you two have kids, her spending will double. And she will probably quit work on you.

Yes, I think I could. And if my wife had the same spending/saving habits as me we'd be multimillionaires.

I'm a thrifty bastard, so yep. My wife gets rid of money like it's got the Zika or something.
