Was your spouse your first choice, or did you settle? And did they settle for you?

Mine definitely descended the ladder a few rungs to get to me.

No. I didn't settle and neither did she.
Her parents were downright giddy I saved her from what would have been a lifetime mistake.

Imagine a poster actually saying, "yeah I settled for this fat bitch because I was lazy and lonely", without it actually being a troll.

I think you may have dodged a bullet, there. I think she's kind of bat shite cray cray now.

I chose her. Then, I had to convince her that I was the one for her. It worked out.

A marriage is more about the attention you put into the relationship than anything else. Soulmates in their 20s will inevitably be distracted by today’s life, so it has to be a priority.

I was just trying to get her a green card so she wouldn’t be deported

My wife is 16 years my junior. Marriage wasn’t on our minds when we started seeing each other initially. It happened naturally for us.

I don’t think it works like that. That paradigm only makes sense if you start with the idea that you HAVE to get married and it HAS to be soon.
Nobody is perfect. If you’re expecting the perfect person to come along, you’ll be old and lonely.
It’s about falling in love, and choosing to love that person (sacrifice for that person and they sacrifice for you).
Having said that, you should make sure that the essential areas of compatibility are aligned: religion, family (kids or no kids), monetary priorities, mental health.
And finally, make sure you believe strongly that your spouse is a GOOD person. You’ll know this in your heart. You can’t respect someone if you don’t think they are a good person.

She settled. I got drunk and woke up married

I was married before, so I guess not.

I’m not going to answer that and have a paper trail.
