You realize as a parent you should be teaching them skills at home as well, right?

higher paying positions are in the corporate/HQs of the companies. Nola won't get this sort of development without courting companies to relocate. that was my original argument about economic development.

This is demonstratively false as it relates to tech companies. The largest firms are decentralized and pay top wages for talent at their offices all over the world. Even during this pandemic period, Facebook, Amazon and Microsoft have signed significant office leases away from their corporate HQ. WFH will further decentralize.

these "top wages" are still lower than the HQ compensation, which was my comment

C-Suite is relatively small but of course, well compensated especially with options. Generally, HQ's are in cities where company was founded.

Without the foundational jobs, the likelihood of the emergence of a unicorn type company is basically nill. You have to create an environment for that company to emerge.

like i said, LC wins again

and Nola isn't that environment for the same reasons why it's lost all its other corporate support the past 15 years

I think his parents own it
I’m surprised only one comment has been made in this thread about Mark’s brother Johnny.
Half the metro area seems to know Johnny

Yep that sucked - no doubt. Although that deal was much smaller than DXC. I would argue that the closure of that office was more related to GE's struggles rather than a New Orleans issue.

What companies left in the last 15 years besides GE?

Hasn’t that deal gone to shite too? Used to work in that building, seemed like DXC was recruiting workforce more heavily in Mumbai than NOLA.

I don't think NOLA is why they left, but they still left and removed a lot of the tech industry doing so.

GE seemed to have a commitment to the city to build the sector. Develop talent and invest, become an actual hub for GE.
