115MM of this would go unaccounted for. The number looks enticing until you realize where it ends up.
Exactly

instead of makign hard core drugs legall which is stupid bythe way, why dont they try to tax something else first that can kill you like cigarettes and see how tha tworks instead?
dont tax beer tho if you tax beer to much there stop buying it and it would be bad for louisiana

Compound the tax revenue with the decreased costs of incarcerating and prosecuting possession/dealing, and it's an even bigger boon for the state coffers.

It's a little early to be drinking so heavily.

I hate when they base these studies on CO's numbers. CO is unique in that it's a weed tourism location that's heavily reliant on prohibition elsewhere.
If the revenue was half of the projection it would still be worth it
Would it not be worth it for 68 million in revenue?

It's such a no-brainer that it'll never happen.
Then some other nearby state will legalize it, and that added revenue will decrease significantly because LA won't be drawing in as many people from nearby states.
Louisiana will probably make it legal to smoke on casino grounds only

If there is any state in the USA that would benefit from legalization, it is Louisiana. Will never happen, when we put people away for decades over a joint.
While I agree it needs to happen, I think your last sentence is pure hyperbole.
As for the OP, that number seems pretty reasonable. LA brought in $116MM in cigarette taxes in 2013, and that was before they went from $.36 to $1.08 per pack of cigarettes.

That god our elected officials know what's best for us and protect us from all that reefer madness. Think of all the kids overdosing on pots.

I'd love to see a southern stage legalize it. Would flood the second hand market too.
It's not going to be AL or MS.
TN would be nice since that's only 15 mins up the road. I would move.

no I would much rather have a bunch of drunky monkeys buying our women alcohol then getting roofied and then being raped
That's already happening, don't add to the problem with a bunch of stoners getting baked and eating all my taco bell

Colorado gave a prediction like that and were at double that prediction like 6 months into the year.
Louisiana too would obliterate that projection imo. It'd be closer to $2-300. This is an absolute no brainer but Louisiana politics is shitty and can't see that

This is the real reason states in the south won't legalize.
It's not the lord, but the laws that enrich the departments of justice that prevent real justice from happening. But, their days are numbered. Cultures and norms are changing, and it truly is only a matter of time.

All the southern states, sans AL adopted the sinful lotto, they will eventually do the same with weed, sans AL.
Money talks. We just need one domino to fall and the other states will be jealous.
Arkansas almost pulled it off a cpl years back I believe. That would work.

Would legalizing cannibas solve AL's budget problems?
This guy wrote an article that bama would free up a ton of money, and it was shared nearly 20k times.
