Marijuana could easily replace five widely-prescribed medications.

Legalization, of course, would also declaw Mexico's and Colombia's drug cartels while reducing crime and incarceration rates in our own country. All are reasons, obviously, why legalization will be fought tooth and nail by the medical industry, politicians, and for-profit prison systems.

Interestingly, the DOJ has declared that it will start honoring and stop prosecuting state marijuana-for-health-reasons laws. So, add doctors to the list of profiteers who will fight legalization; while they could be safely prescribing marijuana for pain and anxiety they'll continue to get their take from the pharmaceutical companies.

Rex, don't you go waving the banner of weed. It's too cool for you.

Obligatory downvote.

Doctors don't care about meds being replaced NEARLY as much as big pharma

Friend of mine has lupus and gets very painful arthritis in her hands because of it. Her doctor had no issue helping my friend get a medical marijuana card to use to purchase at a marijuana dispensary. She smokes or eats pot brownies about once a week now and since doing this....has been able to get off a couple of her lupus meds(ones that were giving her unwanted side effects).

Many people in the medical field already know and acknowledge the medical benefits of marijuana.

Another reason to hate the War on Drugs. It forced me to upvote a Rex thread.

Just to be clear, the cartels will not bat an eye at losing a relatively low profit margin product in Marijuana. Pretty sure they'll survive with meth, coke, and heroin.

Also, the "for profit prison system" won't be crying either as very very low numbers gets prison time for distribution let alone possession of marijuana anymore. Most get a fine and/or multiple probation periods for even their 3rd and 4th offenses.

Read the Internet a little less and join the real world a little more often. You sound like a kook.

I agree though, MJ should be legal in many instances.

Legalization of cannabis will "declaw" Mexican and Columbian Cartels?
