I know there have been threads in past asking how much it costs to ride in a parade. Thought it was interesting to see the other side with how much these krewes are bringing in in revenue.

2. Bacchus $4.24 million
3. Orpheus $2.09 million

5. Tucks $1.81 million
6. Thoth $1.74 million
7. Nyx $1.31 million
8. Hermes $1.30 million
9. Muses $1.25 million
10. Rex $1.03 million
11. Krewe d'Etat $859k
12. Proteus $745k

Are they set up for profit or just to keep enough in the bank for lean years?

If you look at the nola slideshow you can get a bit better breakdown. Endymion makes roughly 7.1 million in net revenue. It then spends almost 6.8 of that in the parade. I'm pretty sure they don't want lots of money left sitting on the books at the end of the fiscal year.

I know the Brennan's were running Bacchus as a total for profit deal....so sayeth the word on the street.

Rex Is cheaper because it's a day time parade with exclusive membership. They don't spend shite on the ball because they don't have to. All they have to do is pay for the floats and the bands. They also donate a fair amount of money through the Pro Bono Publico foundation or whatever. They donate a lot to inner city schools and what not.

Wonder where the Krewe of Hercules would have landed on the list if it still paraded.

Rex funnels most of their money through their charity.

For the record, I have no insight as to the veracity of this or not (I'm not necessarily doubting you, though, either), I just find it amusing.

It was true up until a couple years ago. Members finally got tired of it and sued to wrestle control away from the Brennan family. Old man had himself and son on payroll for like 250k a year and expensed all kinds of stuff to the club like travel and lavish dinners year round that had nothing to do with the parade.

This is what I was told from a few family members who have ridden for 20+ years.

When i rode in Terreanians i seem to remember the krewe taking in somewhere around $440k
Costs a shite ton to put on a legit Mardi Gras parade.
