Marcus Aurelius's Meditations?

Is there a better guide to living a good life? I read this book constantly. It stays on my nightstand. It's not a page turner, but damn it's great to read a page or two when you wake up in the morning or before bed.
Any similar recommendations?

After reading some Walker Percy novel or another I decided I would read The Meditations. That's been about ten years, I'm sure I'll get around to it.

Pick it up. The Dover Thrift addition is only $.99 on Amazon, and it's only about 75 pages long.
But it's not a book you read quickly.

It does sound very boring, and I love to read history. Actually seems like a book no one would read if it weren't for the novelty of having a Roman emperor as the author.

Well, it's not a history book. It's an emperor's interpretation of the school of Stoicism created by Zeno of Citium.
It's his musings on life and death as he was on the front lines with his soldiers.

I recommend "Thinking And Growing Rich" by Napolean Hill. It's about the power of the mind. I want to conquer the whole world after every page. Still haven't yet.

I try to live as a stoic when I can.
The idea is you can't control the world, so learn to accept hardship as it is and void unproductive/negative emotions so that you may continue to live the most virtuous life you can.
