I lost a friend and his buddy there last year...
they launched out of Solan's on a pretty day for some sac-au-lait...
wind got up bad on a front moving in and got them...took a couple of days before he was found...
he was one that always wore his PFD...
sad...

We used to live on Toledo Bend, near Huxley. Unbelievable how rough that that lake can get.

I’ve got caught at TB as well. Staying in the boat lanes with rollers hitting you from the front and side is no fun. If you take it easy usually you can get through it but it can get scary.
I don’t make long runs any longer. I’ve been stuck in bad stuff to many times and I’m just not dealing with that any longer to catch a fish.

where he launched

His truck was at Pontchartrain yacht club Mandeville.

He had a self inflating life vest.

My understanding is that he would fly fish the duck ponds frequently for redfish.

ETA looks like a kick in the arse

Toledo Bend,

Grew up fishing Toledo Bend. True stories about the conditions getting rough fast. Dad and I got caught in a bad wind after making a little run from the camp. Basically had to idle the whole way back and still got soaked. Thankfully we were on the LA side and hadn’t made the run over to the Texas side. Crossing the lake would’ve been impossible in the little 13’ tri hull.

I kayak fish and always wear my vest. With the self inflating ones now they aren’t a problem or cumbersome. Really no excuse not to wear one.

His body has been found. Would you mind updating the title?

Hell yeah it can. I have been in it when you couldn't go under the bridge on the LA side because the rollers were so big.

Terrible situation and I pray for comfort for the family

I fish alone frequently and this is an eye opener for sure. I have all the stuff for safety but admit that I don’t always use it…
