Getting struck by lightning is common enough that standing in a storm is a dumb idea.
Will you get struck? Very unlikely. Is whatever you’re gaining from not finding cover worth getting struck? Not a chance.

For real, I was filming a storm from the porch at a beach house we rented. Lightning struck about 10-15 feet away and my phone shorted out. Video goes wacky for a few seconds before it goes back to normal.

He’ll be lit faraday or two.
Knew a guy that had his truck struck on the hood. Said he lost his hearing for a short while after.

Quite literally today had this very thought (why are more people not struck by lightning?).
Driving via Beaumont TX today and lightning was popping close. Saw very large crowd in fields just south of I-10 that was business as usual playing soccer on multiple fields. Have seen a trend of lightning nonchalance lately.
