My only question is why did the State Trooper keep trying to put himself in front of the car?

Uhh......to try and get it to stop before it ran over people.

That looks pretty obvious.

He can’t stop a car by getting in front of it he is just putting him self in position to get run over.

He’s driving the wrong way while under the influence; he got what he deserved.

Did the guy have a dog in the car with him? Maybe the cop missed?

Was I speaking to only the people in here?

This also coming from the guy that said

Yeah, I'm trying to imagine the scenario developing where shooting comes into play

You can't imagine a scenario where a guy driving the wrong way down the most pedestrian populated street in maybe the entire southern U.S. warrants a shooting?

But he can get in the drivers view to make sure the driver is seeing and aware of his command to stop. Eliminating any chance that the driver didnt understand.

Let’s also not forget that, even though we now know he was just a drunk, in the last couple of years terrorist use of vehicles as a weapon has been a concern. In the few seconds that the troopers had to react, this probably crossed their mind as well. It would be easy to kill / injure a bunch of people by driving down Bourbon. I had my doubts on the shooting after the initial story but the video makes it abundantly clear they did a great job.

He was erratic for sure but seemed not to be aiming at people

Are you fricking kidding? People were literally jumping out the way.

I don't think the Troopers had time to do the geometry anyway.

They have devices installed on bourbon to prevent this exact scenario from happening. They just don’t have them up during the day but it’s not like police aren’t aware of it being a possibility.

This might actually further the push of turning Bourbon into a pedestrian mall.
