As mentioned apartments have been overbuilt
College kids want to be in new nice apartments which daddy will pay for
Old ones start sitting empty.
Section 8 comes in
shite goes downhill quickly
Lived in Sharlo early 2000s. Was great. Drove through recently and it looked like Mogadishu

I can't imagine how run down some of those are now. They were shitty when I frequented them around 06-08

What apartments near LSU are section 8 now? I was under the assumption LSU required that all freshman live in the dorms, then after that can go on their own. I thought that would lessen demand for off campus housing.
Was there such huge demand for apartments that they had to build all those farther down on Burbank?

In 1979 it would be a fist fight in the line at Pedro's on Highland.

That's strange considering just about every measurable crime statistic was higher in 1979

They don't really enforce it.
Tops created more demand for housing because so many more students/parents aren't paying full tuition.

The apartments were shite.
The townhouse area was fine into early 2000s

Probably none. This board considers anything other than their mcmansions to be section 8.

When’s the last time you’ve even been around campus? It’s out of control dude
Posted on 1/22/19 at 12:13 pm to OKTGR580
I live in the area. The OT blows everything way out of proportion.

The back half of Tigerland is almost all low income housing
Posted on 1/22/19 at 12:17 pm to Brosef Stalin
They do exaggerate but you’re in denial if you don’t believe there’s an issue there. Tigerland blows my mind how ghetto it is. Just a few blocks from northgate are full blown trap houses.
The LSU area needs a miracle from God. Go ask parents of prospective students in HS. If it’s not their dream school, I’d bet many are turned away once they see the surrounding area near campus. The ones on the fence between LSU or other SEC schools, you tell me where you’d feel comfortable sending your child? I knew of someone from my HS who was visiting colleges are literally said the area surrounding LSU is too ghetto. They ended up going to Bama. It’s no coincidence LSU loses kids to bama & ole miss regularly.
The ghetto and the lack of scholarships LSU offers

So they chose pretty much the one other SEC school that is surrounded by a horrific neighborhood and crime as well
Brilliant!

I’ve been to both and sure as shite didn’t see any ghetto around UA like I do around LSU. I saw nice, newly developed businesses and housing.
Sure there’s some of that around LSU too but there’s much More ghetto. I can’t believe that you people are in such denial.

Thanks! I looked up online and closest section 8 apartments is near Gardere and GSRI.
But I do question why building so many apartments near LSU off Burbank. I cant see them staying nice for 10 years. They were hastily put up and will see if they keep up with maintenance the first few years.
