I believe the city MIGHT be turning around. And Cantrell winning in 10 days would ensure that the decline is real. Charbonnet winning wouldn't be far off.
So the city is turning around, but in 10 days will begin declining again?

Way to leave out:

It would need to continue for quite a while before I believe the city MIGHT be turning around.

Was in the bar at night two weeks ago and have been going in there sporadically for years. Can attest that the crowd was a bit rougher than the service industry and hard core drinkers I remember from years past. Couple that with the crowds hanging outside not spending money, which I have never seen there before, and it was enough to cause my date (no pics) to get nervous enough for us to leave.

Wasn't a regular but lived and worked in the area so I saw it a lot and popped in occasionally

Always had some mix of service industry, homeless types and occasionally got more rough. Last couple years it started skewing more dangerous and the owner stopped being 24 hour, among some other changes to try to cleanup the fights and drugs a bit.

if you told me the shooting happened even a block in any direction away from there I'd be surprised. That it was chucks seemed just a matter of time unless they figured their situation out.

Chucks makes the strongest drinks in town. Used to live 4 blocks away and stopped in every afternoon for 1 drink for my walkk home from work. Right across street from a nice wyndham. Sketchy bar but not that bad of area.

but it's amazing how much the murder rate has dropped in the last three months. It's like some kind spell has been cast over the city.

All the killers migrated to Baton Rouge until the heat dies down in NOLA

Yup. All fair. It's even in a nicely renovated condo building. This truly could be the end of the road for it. They at one point cut hours waaaaaay back (closing at like 8) and couldn't seem to clean up the crowd. As you note- strong and cheap drinks. Add that it's Downtown. No security. Brings drama!

That spot should be valuable, why not sell it and put something nice there? You gotta sells lots of $3 bourbons and $2 beers to make what that spot is worth.
