A passenger on a Delta flight from LA to Seattle has been arrested after he opened the plane's emergency exit door and deployed its slide as it taxied down the runway.

The incident happened Saturday morning around 10am on a flight that was just pulling away from the gate at LAX.

'Holy sh*t. Just as my flight was leaving the gate at LAX a man ran up from the back of the plane & opened the door. Then he said "What do I do now?" Flight attendants tried to stop him but he deployed the slide and jumped out,' wrote Gillian Sheldon, a passenger.

According to local media reports, the Los Angeles Airport Police responded to the incident and detained the man.

'Due to the circumstances, FBI has been notified,' said Los Angeles Airport Police Captain Karla Rodriguez.

In a video posted to Twitter by Sheldon, an unidentified man is seen on the tarmac outside of the plane with his hands behind his back, seemingly handcuffed.

An officer escorts the man around a patrol car. The man appears in a striped red and blue sweater with black pants and black shoes.

As the bald man with a beard and glasses is walked around the tarmac, flight attendants on board can be heard speaking over the plane's PA system.

'The captain is speaking with air traffic control and officers out there,' one flight attendant says. 'Once we have more information we will be making an announcement.'

According to local outlets, the man was not arrested after he opened the door. One official said he was 'transported to a local hospital for mental evaluation.'

In a statement after the incident, Delta said they worked quickly to fix the issue.

'Delta flight 1714 operating from Los Angeles to Seattle returned to the gate due to an unruly passenger, the statement reads.

Or an affirmative action employee with the cleaning crew who fell asleep on the job and didn't want to leave LA?

I’ve always wondered if anyone could just open those things or if there are special locks/security measures that only airplane crew could.

they can't be opened once the plane is pressurized but if you'll notice when traveling, particularly if seated in an emergency exit row, part of the flight attendant's pre-departure briefing is asking people if they are willing and able to assist in opening the emergency exit and evacuating if necessary

Maybe a voice in his head screamed "Fire!" and it sounded real to him. We let crazy people get onto airplanes out on the west coast all the time.

from the JPATS

Passengers aboard a flight are restrained with handcuffs as well as ankle and waist chains which are double- or even triple-locked. Those who pose additional danger may be forced to wear additional restraints, such as reinforced mittens that completely isolate and almost completely immobilize the hands, handcuff covers which conceal the keyholes, and face masks to prevent biting and spitting. However, due to FAA regulations inmates are not physically restrained to their seats in any way except for seat belts used during takeoff and landing.[citation needed]

I have exception with the last sentence

Agreed. It's becoming an epidemic.

Like someone said above, time to raise prices and price these wackos out.

If 777tiger was the Captain of that plane, that cuck would be eating through a straw until Labor Day. Believe that.
