"Dyan French Cole, known to many as Mama D, has passed away at the age of 72, Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced Saturday (May 20).
"She was a longtime community leader who advocated for quality housing, recreation and justice," Landrieu said. "Mama D is best known for her support of Stallings Gentilly Playground and serving as the first female president of the NAACP."
