Have firetrucks buzzing around Wichita Falls but don't know what they are responding to. I do not smell any smoke - very dusty and windy. A lot of energy with this event

First time I’ve ever seen an official warning from my weather app invoking April 27, 2011 in the message. Looks like the same exact area in the rare high risk zone too.

Very similar setup to 04/27/11 with the only real differences being that tomorrow's high risk zone is about 50 to 75 miles further south than the high risk zone outlined for 04/27/11. That and the fact that this system is occurring in mid March as opposed to late April.

Relatively speaking this being a mid March vs a late April system with a similar setup could help a little (at least as far as keeping this from approaching a 04/27/11 type event) but I'm afraid given the setup it won't help enough to stop what will most likely end up being a very significant tornado outbreak. Even a system that produces 50 to 60% of what 04/27/11 produced would be a problem. Let's just hope the tornadoes that do develop overnight tonight thru Sunday morning don't end up going through the middle of towns and cities the way so many of the tornadoes on 04/27/11 did.

You can watch the live news coverage (particularly Spann on ABC 33/40) of 4/27/11 on YouTube... the number of tornadoes caught live on like tower cams & traffic cams was insane

Almost like 1 tornado would end & they'd be like here's another warned storm we might be able to watch roll by

Welp I can report that here in Cenla the air Def has that muggy, still, ominous feeling and my dog has been restless all day.

Honest question... what's the typical source of these fires?

Like is it really people flicking cigarettes out of car windows?

WAFF out of Huntsville had the Hackleburg/Phil Campell tornado on their cam as it approached eastern Limestone county. It killed the power to the camera after a minute or so.

Power lines blown down

Trains

Trucks or cars stopping over dry grass

Almost all human starts or powerlines coming down in the high wind. Something as simple as dragging a trailer chain can start one in this kind of weather.

i'm sick and tired of these extreme weather events.

Settle down, Karen.

These "extreme" weather events have been happening forever. It's early spring in the South, this is what happens.

Just got back in from running a couple errands. Had a 71 mph wind gust at one point when I was leaving a store. Hadn’t felt wind that strong since one of the low end hurricanes we stayed back for in Louisiana growing up. Skies insanely dusty. Feels like we’re on whatever planet dune is set on.

ETA: also of note is how fast the winds picked up. It was breezy but not bad. Stopped to get the oil changed in my car which took about 15 minutes give or take. Walk outside and it’s picked up 20+ mph and staying steady.

Ryan Hall Y'all YouTube channel is my go-to for the full dashboard of chasers on the ground, radars, warnings, and an actual PhD meteorologist on staff.
