How do you define "necessary"?

I’m not going to go through every step taken in a hospital when it comes to dealing with infectious or potential infectious patients. But 0 people on this board would disagree with any of them. They are all common sense steps.

Or are you asking me as it relates to outside of a healthcare setting? If so, that’s not really my arena. But there are some overlaps.

didn’t say that, but if that’s all this is, I would argue IN THIS INSTANCE it seems it maybe would be. I REALLY HOPE there is more to this than that.

Here in America we have to worry about being sued. Doctors and healthcare entities are at the top of that list. Covering your arse is generally a good thing, considering it requires transparency and communication.

Patient safety and avoiding litigation are synonymous

what are the lawsuit threats based in, exactly?

we just shut down the fricking country for a month. you don't think there are less expensive ways to indemnify doctors?

Nah. They might not be virologists but They all know more about it than the majority of people on here spreading doom and gloom. When they get worried I'll get worried.

I thought we were talking about the drastic governmental and societal actions being taken. I don't really care about what internal processes hospitals take with respect to infectious or potentially infectious patients.

That would certainly....flatten the curve

I’m not arguing for or against what the government has done. I don’t trust government to do anything except make mistakes.

My initial post was responding to someone who referred to “folks on the front line think this is an overreaction” and then mentioned a bunch of people who didn’t go to medical school, including a drug rep.

In my line of work I get a peek behind the curtain for those that make some big decisions within these systems, and they are concerned.
That’s all I’m saying. Their #1 concern is being overwhelmed and not having the supplies to manage the outbreak.

But to what do you think they were referring when they mentioned "overreaction"? Certainly not hospitals trying to find more ventilators.

These are inherently related. The drastic governmental and societal actions being taken because our healthcare system isn’t really equipped to manage this thing if it gets worse.

But I get what you’re saying, 100%. It’s just important to see the big picture imo

I disagree. The ambulance rider is hands on with it as well and the sales guy is involved with selling test kit stuff. When the paramedic tells me it's time to panic I will panic.

Is this a joke? You’re waiting on someone that took 3 months of fricking classes to be in an ambulance over the people that have dedicated their entire existence to studying infectious diseases? Fyi, these cases aren’t coming in via ambulance.

The bigger lie is the pharm sales bit. No pill pushing salesmen is selling test kit supplies. There are two companies producing kits under an emergency declaration by the FDA. If you know someone selling test kit anything they’re breaking the fricking law.

Probably the governmental actions being taken. Which again, are being taken so as not to overwhelm our fairly fragile healthcare system. There is already a shortage of providers in this country, particularly in rural America. The entire point of these drastic measures is to ensure hospitals don’t have to make tough decisions as to who gets care and who doesn’t.

I’ll give an example. I have 2 health systems I work with that have already halted elective surgeries due to the outbreak, because they have COVID patients at multiple locations that came through the ER. That’s a problem. Elective surgeries are still pretty damn important. That’s a minor example too

Just stop with the bullshite. Tell your friends to come visit the fricking VA in Nola for an hour and let’s see how they feel about it. This is very real and it’s still in its infancy in the US.
