It's $35 for a dozen chocolate dipped strawberries?! That's a ripoff.
I just googled the price of strawberries.
quote:
Cost of strawberries Organic strawberries command a price premium averaging $0.61 per pound at the farmgate and $1.00 per pound at the retail level.
quote:
One pound of strawberries is 15 to 20 medium berries.
I looked up a recipe for chocolate dipped strawberries and for 1 lbs it calls for .5 lbs of chocolate.
At retail, an 11 oz bag of hershey chocolate chips cost $2.24. 11 oz = 0.72 lbs (so you will need two bags to get 1 lbs)
So 2 bags x $2.24 = $4.48
Chocolate= $4.48
Dozen strawberries= $1
Other cost (you use electricity or gas to melt chocolate and whatever else) $2.00
Cost to make 12 chocolate covered strawberries= $7.48
$35 is over a 400% markup! Wow....

They also have to factor in shipping and packaging and keeping them cold

But........
You don't have to do any of the work.
Drive to store, Melt the chocolate, coat the strawberries, wrap'em up in a presentable package etc.
Just the hour in prep work is worth the $35.00.

True, which is probably more than $2. So let's say $4 for "other cost" for every 12 strawberries. That's still right over $9. Still not a bad profit margin.

Chris, we talking about Darths legs being cold.
You wouldn’t know anything about that.

I just ordered. I got 20% off coupon, got the dozen strawberries and 10 cheesecake bites, listed price only $43.97. Keep in mind, 20% off of that...By the time I paid for the card to go with it, and delivery charges to have it delivered VD, with taxes, final bill:
$86.82
They kill you on shipping charges.....

I am a cold natured person, basically because I am not a fat arse.. And my legs get cold as well... So I am not sure why you assume my legs don't get cold.

Or did you pay extra for guaranteed delivery?

True, but that only warrants a handy. Who wants a handy?
Paige,
No, don't fall for that, shipping IS NOT included. Standard shipping is $15.99. Then, if you want it delivered Valentine's day guaranteed, it's another $9.99. So shipping charges alone will run $26 on any order, even a cheap one for $19.99.

Love Cheese Cake but the best dessert I've ever had was this
Crème Brûlée I had in Boston. You could see the vanilla beans in it. I haven't been able to find one close to that here.
