100%
And why mother’s? In the city with some of the best food in the world and y’all chose mother’s.. that’s a damn shame.
Anyway enjoy your trip, it’s hot as hell today, but still plenty to enjoy.

You will probably get a parking ticket. Just consider it expensive pay parking.
Parking on the street is free on Sundays

[quote]A former resident who now lives and works in Ft Morgan and one of my wife’s friends both suggested it. It’ll be what it’ll be. I like soul food so any suggestions for future visits would be welcomed.
I suggest finding a good oyster bar. Casamentos or Gallier oyster bar are both pretty good even if you don't order oysters.
If you are willing to spend a bit more you can't go wrong with Peche or Bywater American Bistro.

Deanie's FQ used to be great for fried seafood and BBQ shrimp. The original on Lake Road in Bucktown even better.
Mother's does a very good breakfast. That's the only time I'll go.

Felix's in the FQ is the best for raw oysters if you stand at the bar and get them freshly shucked. Right across the street from the shitty food tourist trap Acme's and it's ubiquitous line of customers lined up on the sidewalk.
The Acme's in BR is actually good.

Deanie's is the reason that ketchup and tartar sauce was invented. To cover up the heavy burned oil.

Eta: OP might as well stop by Cafe du Monde afterwards to complete the cycle.
Mother's is overrated (though some of their food is good), but Cafe du Monde is still good for what it is and dirt cheap. Not every place has beignets and it has been there since 1862, so it's historic and good for people watching in a scenic area.

First thing, find out if you are in a one gun, two gun, or three gun neighborhood.

OK, Mother's is over 80 years old. You don't stay around that long by just being a "tourist trap".
It's recommended because it's old and has been here forever.
I personally think the quality has gone down a bit over the years, and it's not worth waiting in line for.
But to act like it's some crappy tourist trap is a little silly.

Deanie's in Bucktown is not very good. When it comes to boiled seafood in BT, Capt Sid's is #1, Schaeffers is #2, and Deanies is a very distant 3rd. Per fried seafood, other venues are better but Deanie's ain't terrible.

Deanies and GW Finns are the only 2 legit tourist traps I can think of right off the top of my head

Are they not tourist traps?
Are they not legit restaurants with good decent food?

I'm pretty sure Convention Center Blvd is the street that connects the 2. I was just pointing out that he couldn't have parked at the corner.

Negative Ghost Rider. We had a good meal. It may be a tourist spot but at least half of the patrons I saw in line or inside were locals.
You gotta realize that the OTers who are Nola locals are generally ASSHOLES who hate everything popular anyhow.

Mother’s isn’t popular amongst locals, so you’re way off on your melt.
Truth is, we’re actually outgoing people who want tourist to get the best taste of New Orleans. There are plenty places who do circles around mother’s.
