LSU Sororities- how big of a scam are they?

At dinner tonight, our family was talking about how much dues for LSU sororities cost these days. Apparently they can run up to 1-2k per semester...
Now, I graduated from LSU recently and I can remember the sororities having events, but they never threw parties at their houses. That was left up to the fraternities. And it’s not like the sororities had events every weekend, they maybe had like 2-3 sorority paid for events a semester.
LSU sororities have roughly 300 girls in each of them, if each semester it costs 1k in dues, that’s 300 grand in funds. Where the hell is all this money going???

All of the sororities combined just have 300?

There are many advantages to Greek life but we won't go into that here. I'm sure they are making their money but it isn't cheap to run a Greek chapter. We used to have to do it on a shoestring budget while I was there. It was tough

1000 a semester sounds pretty cheap

Sororities just stockpile all of that money and spend it on their houses. I knew a few sorority treasurers and they would always talk about the hundreds of thousands and/or millions the chapters had stashed away.

If you factor in food it’s really not that much same goes for fraternities.
