Alright #12!

Oregon State University 65.38
Given that Oregon and Evergreen are each within an hour and a half from it, I have a hard time believing they’re #14.

Purdue University--West Lafayette has a total undergraduate enrollment of 34,920 (fall 2020), with a gender distribution of 57% male students and 43% female students.
Probably a bit of an outlier compared to most colleges.
U of Chicago is 52/48.

The survey tagged the wrong data set. LSU students are more conservative than most. Right wing conservatives always claim to be victimized and censored. The students just parroted the typical right wing whining.
LSU is not a restrictive place on free speech. In fact, it is much more open and tolerant of all kinds of viewpoints, especially right wing viewpoints that are scorned in most eastern and western universities.

I see an obvious problem with this study right off the bat. Namely, the self reporting aspect.
For example, I see Oregon State is supposedly among the highest ranked. But that's just a neat trick of what happens when your student body is more monolithic in thought.
Think about it. In a school where nearly everyone thinks the same, a smaller percentage of students might report "self censoring" even if the school is actually absurdly oppressive to that smaller group.
Meanwhile, at a school less monolithic that still has a generally liberal to militant liberal faculty, you'll get more kids saying they feel the need to self censor.
Basically, this study didn't measure free speech, it measured student happiness with the environment they're in which may well be because the students belong to an overwhelming majority of speech fascists who happen to mostly agree with each other at a given school.

AND THIS is what people mean when they say this country is not remotely the same as what they experienced growing up in it, and they’re right. It isn’t.
