In the late 90's there was a KLSU show called the Rusty Cage.
Per a quick google search, looks like they still do the show.

Really?
Heard her recently on WRNO - Total Traffic. That is a network with several reporters which provide content on several stations.

Probably not WLSU call letters as stations west of the Mississippi River get a “K” while those on the East side get a “W”
My understanding is LSU got the K because the transponder/antenna was on the west side of the river. KLSU peeps can you confirm?

Call letters are normally assigned to their "city of license", e.g. Baton Rouge for then-WPRG.
KLSU was assigned because we made the argument that more of our signal would land on the west side of the River than on the east.
And we may or may not have made a call to a friendly political figure, and suddenly there was KLSU. I remember running down the East Stadium hallway of the station to have the DJ read the new calls before someone changed their mind.

That’s great folklore. So the west of the MS River is not true?

I was a DJ there from 86 til 90.
Who ran the show late night, say 8-10 on Saturday, maybe Sunday, that played great music. Not the typical at the time Southern Rock, but cool Euro stuff. My friends loved it.

No, it was just my convoluted arguments about signal coverage. KLSU studios and transmitter remain on campus. God bless old Jules d'Hemecourt for filtering down my inch-thick folder of arguments to something that the FCC would even consider.
These days Baton Rouge is about half W and half K calls, by the way. Credit BR High for the cool WBRH (FM) and KBRH (AM) combo.
